Instructions
- Cook the Pasta: Boil the spaghetti or linguine in a large pot of salted water until it is just al dente (it will cook more in the oven). Drain the noodles and set them aside.
- Build the Meat Sauce: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef with the diced onion and garlic until the meat is fully cooked. Drain any excess fat. Stir in both jars of sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper, then simmer on low for 5 minutes.
- Whip the Creamy Layer: In a bowl, vigorously mix the softened cream cheese, cottage cheese (or ricotta), and 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese until smooth and uniform.
- Assemble the Layers: Preheat your oven to 375°F and spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray.
- Pour the melted butter evenly into the bottom of the baking dish.
- Add half of the cooked noodles into the bottom of the dish.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the noodle layer.
- Layer the remaining noodles on top of the cheese.
- Pour the meat sauce evenly over the top noodle layer.
- Top the entire casserole with the remaining 2 cups of mozzarella cheese.
- Bake: Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until the cheese is melted, golden-brown, and bubbling at the edges. Rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Pro-Tip for Entertaining
If you are prepping this the morning of your event, assemble the layers completely but do not bake it yet. Cover the dish and keep it refrigerated. When your guests arrive, simply pop it into the oven, adding about 10 extra minutes to the covered baking time to account for the chill.
